Fat ain’t all that bad!

Coming down off of the feast and all the hustle and bustle of company sure made today feel like it’s Sunday.  Don’t know about you, but I ate my share of things that aren’t usually included in my daily menu.  Stuff like stuffing for instance.  This year I also gave in and didn’t make it healthy.  No whole grain stuffing cubes.  I bought my family’s traditional Pepperidge Farms Seasoned stuffing cubes.  You see, I’ve refrained from buying them for years, since they contain the two big NO NOs for me which are HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) and partially hydrogenated oil.  I have to admit, I had a bit of an internal struggle putting those bags in the cart at first.  But you know what?  Thanksgiving only comes around one time a year.  And if your family likes the way the stuffing tastes better with the traditional ingredients.  It’s ok.  Enjoy the day, enjoy the food and most of all enjoy the company of family and friends.  That’s what it’s all about.  There’s always tomorrow.  Just get back to those healthy habits in a day or two or until the leftovers are gone and don’t beat yourself up about it.  That’s not healthy either.  Internal stress like that can do more harm than good.  In fact, if you eat clean 90% of the time, going off the wagon once in a while can be a help.  In fact today in an NPR All things considered article http://tinyurl.com/5u9ws they talked about some research that proved that eating fatty foods produces a molecule called NAPE which tells the brain to shut down appetite. Which is a good thing.  In addition to that, eating like we do during the holidays actually throws things off enough metabolically to enhance your progress.  Just don’t stray too far and forget your way back.  And also, don’t forget to keep moving and get some exercise.  Especially when there’s pie involved.
