The McDonald's diet for marathon training? It’s a given that I’m NOT a big fan of McDonald's or any fast food on a regular basis, especially when it comes to fueling the body for marathon training. In fact, I believe that packaged processed foods are the root cause of our health care crisis.
However, after hearing about the McRunner’s latest fund raising stunt, I’ve become a McFan of the Palatine, IL dad -Joe D’Amico.
The whole thing started out as a food challenge because he said he loves running and McDonalds. I’m guessing as sort of a one up to Morgan Spurlock’s Supersize Me challenge. D’Amico pledged to only eat McDonalds for the last 30 days of his training up to the Los Angeles Marathon March 13th.
The McRunner said he wasn’t out to make a point and some feared for his health as he outlined his plan on his blog and for 30 days logged everything he ate.
- 91 hotcakes
- 24 orders of Oatmeal
- 24 Chicken “Snack Wraps”
- 23 Hamburgers
- Lots of McDonald’s cookies
Then half way into the challenge, he pledged to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House and the stunt morphed into a very successful fund raiser. Drawing 23,000 Face book fans and $27,000 to the Ronald McDonald house charities.
I most definitely wouldn’t suggest anyone ever pull the same stunt and eat McDonalds for 30 days even though he improved his time (2:36:15) and supposedly improved his cholesterol, but I can get excited and become a McFan of someone turning their passions into positive good for others less fortunate.
