A friend of mine tweeted about some extreme developments re: baby carrots the other day that was such awesome news, I thought it was worth a mention. I'm so happy that "A Bunch of Carrot Farmers" (that's the name of the group) have decided to take on the junk food industry by parodying their advertising tricks in order to gain some attention to their baby carrots.
Like I mentioned in my last "Duct Tape Post", we need help making healthy food like baby carrots more convenient and appealing. And if presenting them sexy and extreme is the ticket, I'm all for it.
So a little background, just in case you're not up on the junk food industry standard for advertising like me. The way they sell stuff like Cheetos and Doritos these days is with lots of skin, flashy images, crazy dudes jumping off stuff, bikinis on the beach etc. I think you've got a visual right?
That being said, I love, love , love the latest ad campaign from a group of carrot farmers to promote baby carrots in cool junk food style bags. Brilliant! I even like the groups' name "A Bunch of Carrot Farmers". It's catchy, got my attention and made me want to watch and I never usually want to watch commercials. Maybe it's because of the parody thing. They're very "Saturday Night Live" or "South Park" esque.
These guys have put up 25 million dollars in a effort to take on those crunchy little bags of air that seem to be everywhere! I realize that 25 million is only a drop in the bucket compared to the 1 billion that's spent each year on junk food ads, but it's a start and a step in the right direction. At this point we need all the help we can get.
All right, I'll get off my soap box. Check out the ads below, I've got one for an extreme Cheetos (I have a soft spot for Cheetos) ad so you can see what they're up against and one of the new baby carrot commercials. Let me know what you think in the comment section.
