Do you work out and think you’re eating healthy and are still having trouble losing your belly fat? If so, you better take a look at what you’re eating and drinking. The truth is, there are tons of food and drinks out on the market that are touted as being “healthy”, but instead cause your body to store fat and prevent you from losing it, no matter how hard or often you work out.
Here are 2 things you should stay away from if you’re interested in a trim shapely waistline.
The first food is “Soy”. I know this may be hard to swallow, especially since there’s so much information and advertising out there that touts “Soy” as being the next best thing since sliced bread. The truth is however, despite the media and soy manufacturers propaganda, is that soy is very counterproductive for fat loss and it also can be detrimental to your health.
Not only does soy contain very high concentrations of pesticides, but non-fermented soybeans also contain large quantities of natural toxins or "anti-nutrients”. An example of one of these natural toxins are enzyme (trypsin) inhibitors that block protein digestion. This usually leads to gastric distress, chronic deficiencies and often times pathological conditions of the pancreas (cancer). In addition to the ant-nutrients, soy also contains phyto-estrogens that disrupt your hormone balance, contributing to estrogen dominance. This condition not only prevents your body from losing fat, but it encourages even more fat storage. Which is exactly the opposite outcome that we’re all looking for.
The second thing that we’re persuaded to reach for when trying to lose weight is a “light beer”. How many commercials portray lite beer as being the savior to a good time and a slim waist? And how many lite beer commercials portray an active lifestyle? Quite a few. There's one that comes to mind that has 55 cal and shows a full bottle of the beer next to a dinky little half chopped off glass of wine, which leads you to think that choosing the beer is a better choice.
Lite beer may be part of a good time, but it's actually worse for you than choosing a small glass of your favorite wine and here's why. First of all alcohol inhibits the release of leptin (satiation and fat releasing hormone) and secondly most people who drink lite beer think that because it’s lower in calories and carbs that they can drink more. Lite beer also has a third strike against it because it contains estrogenic compounds found in the hops that encourage fat storage (beer belly) not the fat loss that we’re after.
Don’t worry there is a remedy. Even though you should minimize drinking when in fat loss mode, you can still enjoy an adult beverage every now and then. However, do yourself a favor and reach for the good stuff (as my friends call it) real beer (darker beer) or a glass of wine. Both not only taste better, but they have fewer hormone disruptors and also contain some vitamins and good antioxidants. At least that way you’ll not only enjoy it more, but you’ll also get some positive health benefits too.
These examples are just two of the biggies that we’re all fooled into thinking will help us lose weight, when in reality they’re not only making our waist lines fatter, but they’re also making the food companies profits fatter too. So kick those two choices to the curb and see what happens. Bet you’ll get some positive results.
