Today President Obama signed into law the much debated Health Care Bill.
Over the past two days I’ve been doing my own un-official survey because I was curious what folks really know about this much debated subject. Do they know what’s really in HR 3590? Has anyone read it’s over 2,000 pages and what are their thoughts and feelings re: this whole deal. What I came up with was very consistent with my own knowledge base. Not a whole heck of a lot other than tid-bits of emotional spin that’s been spewed out by main stream media.
Everyone I asked, didn’t read the actual bill. After all who has the time to read 2,400 pages anyway? And not many others had much else to say other than their own feelings and opinions. One person did have someone e-mail them a summary of the legislation. Here’s a link and time line that spells out the high lights pretty well.
So what’s this got to do with health and wellness? Well, just in case you missed an earlier rant of mine, I gave one of my solutions for our health care crisis. I think we all ought to take a hard look in the mirror and ask ourselves “What have you done to help improve your health and wellness today?” Yep that’s right. My feelings are that if we all spent a little more time and effort on prevention, by making better food choices, moving more and spending more time on our mental and spiritual well being and less time in fast food drive throughs and getting cranked up by the fear based spin of main stream media, we’d be making a pretty good dent in health care costs.
What are your thoughts? Please share them in the comments section. If you agree with anything I’ve said and you’d like to learn more about our current food system and how it negatively affects our health. Check out the movie Food Inc. (I’ll be posting more on that at a later date). I saw it the other day and really feel that if people would see the film, it would help motivate them to change their food habits, which in turn would positively affect their health.
