That’s right, don’t say it. DIET. That doesn’t feel very good does it? Not saying they don’t work. Any diet will work for a certain period of time, but what usually happens when you paint yourself into a corner? You blast your way out and usually end up with more than what you started with in the first place. Soooooo, what do we do then?
Believe it or not, if we keep with our simple theme, the answer lies in two easy steps.
1. Eat the majority of your foods closest to their natural state as possible. Things like fresh locally grown and organic farmers market type (if possible) fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy and whole grains. The less food is processed and messed with, the better it is for us.
2. When you do shop at your grocery or mega super store (Super Target or Walmart), do the perimeter shop. Most of the stuff in the middle aisles is processed, packaged and usually more expensive. You’ll not only eat better, but you should spend less too.
So what do we do again? Follow the path of least assistance. You won’t find much positive from food marketers. Although I have to admit we are seeing better choices in the stores than even a year ago. Eat fresh, non-processed fruits, veggies, meats, dairy and whole grains 90% of the time and enjoy pizza, cake and ice cream once in a while. If we’re realistic we have no choice but to succeed.
Fresh, organic and local is our mantra with occasional dabbles in comfort foods about 10% of the time. We’re human after all and don’t you think realistic feels a whole lot better than DIET? Eat fresh and live a little once in a while. It really works. And remember we’re here to be happy NOT miserable.
